Trekking to Everest Base camp trek

About 40,000 people per year trek to Everest Base Camp from Lukla airport, which is located at 17,900 feet (5,500 m) altitude on the south side of Everest. For trekkers to reach the base camp in a timely manner, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are usually taken to save time and energy. It is possible to trek to Lukla, however. From Kathmandu to Lukla no local transport, so large and heavy freight must be transported by plane.
