Day 01 upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1.300m)

Our representative outside the arrival terminal will warmly welcome you after completing immigration and baggage procedures.

From the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel in a private vehicle. The airport usually takes 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic, and offers your first glimpse of Kathmandu’s lively streets: local markets and cultural atmosphere.

Kanchenjunga trek | After checking in at the hotel, you can relax and recover from your journey. There will be a short briefing from your guide, who will explain about the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek.

This day is managed for the trekking permit, before heading into the mountains. It’s an important and practical day to ensure a smooth and well-organized trek

Trekking Permit arrangement: Kanchenjunga special trekking permit and Kanchenjunga National Park permits.

We need the following documents: Your Passport photo copy with Nepali visa and two passport-size photos with your Travel insurance details.

You need time to check your trekking gear, what you need for the Kanchenjunga trek.

Trekking equipment: such as trekking boots, a down jacket, and a sleeping bag, you need to buy or renting you will get them in the Thamel Trekking shop.

Day 3: Kathmandu – Bhadrapur Flight and Jeep Drive to Taplejung

Kanchenjunga Tea House Trek | scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. From Kathmandu, it takes about 45-56 minutes. During the flight time, wonderful aerial views of the Himalayan range and the eastern hills of Nepal. From Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, there are daily domestic flights operated by Tara, Budha air other companies.

Plane landing at Bhadrapur airport -approximately 91m-299 feet. After getting out of the airport door, you will meet the Jeep driver and start overland travel to Taplejung. From here, drive following the eastern hills through the towns by Birtamod. Ilam, Phidim, Kabeli to Taplejung. The route passes through tea gardens, the river valleys, and terraced farmland with traditional villages, providing a great introduction to eastern Nepal’s cultural and landscape.

From Bhadrapur to Taplejung is about 242 KM, and the drive takes approximately 8 to 10 hours, depending on the weather and road conditions. After arrival in Taplejung, enjoy views of the surrounding green hills, and prepare for the trek adventure ahead in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.

Day 4: Taplejung to Skekhathum

Breakfast at Phungling Bazaar, the shearing Jeep toward Shekhathum, the gateway to the remote Kanchenjung Conservation Area. From here, driving follows the rugged mountain roads through the deep river valleys, with dense forest. Terraced framland, and traditional Limbu villages, along the way, you will pass a settlement, such as Mitlung, Chiruwa, Taplethok, and Lelep, while enjoying the view of waterfalls, cardamom fields, and the Tamor river.

The Jeep climbs and descends along the narrow hillside tracks. Most of the sections are unpaved, dusty, and sometimes affected by landslides during the monsoon season. Making the drive a memorable one road experience, a 4WD Jeep is required for this road.

At the Taplethok Kanchenjunga trek, permits are checked before entering the Conservation Area srea. The trek continues through wonderful forests, landscape alonggside the Ghunsa Khola untill reaching Shekhathum, a small teahouse by the riverside surrounded by steep green hills.

Upon arrival at Shekhathum, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this remote village, and prepare for the Adventure trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek.

Day 05: Trek from Shekhathum to Amji Lapsa village

Kanchenjunga Tea House trek, your breakfast in Sekhathum, and the trek begins along the Ghunsa Khola valley. The trek trail follows a narrow path through the dense forests, and bamboo, Rhododendron, and pine forests, crossing several suspension bridges over rushing Himalaya streams. The trail features a series of ascents and descents as you make your way deeper into the remote region of Kanchenjunga region.

Along the way to the Kanchenjunga trekking trail, enjoy the view of waterfalls, cliffs, and pristine forests rich in birdlife. From here, the path passes through the small settlements and traditional Himalaya landscapes inhabited by local communities. As you gain little altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly wide.

When you reach the small Tibetan-influenced village of Amji Lpasa, nestled on a hillside above the river. This is a peaceful settlement that offers impressive views of the surrounding Himalaya and forests. Tonight at a local Teahouse in Amji Lpasa, you will enjoy the remote mountain village as you continue your trek to the upper Kanchenjunga valley.

Day 06: Amji Lapsa to Kyabla

Morning breakfast at Amji Lapsa, and the trek continues northward along the Ghunsa valley. The trail climbs slowly through bamboo, pine, and dense rhododendron forests, offering us wonderful views of waterfalls and rugged Himalyan scenery. The trekking route passes through several landslide-prone sections and crosses wooden and suspension bridges over Himalyan Streams (Khola)

Kanchenjunga Tea House Trek | the landscape becomes more alpine, and the influence of Tibetan culture becomes increasingly visible. Along the trail, you may encounter Yaks grazing in the Himalyan pastures, and enjoy excellent opportunities to observe local wildlife and birdlife.

Day 07: Kyabla to Ghunsa via Phale

You’re Breakfast at Kyabla, then trek through an amazing part, with Rhododendron, Juniper, and pine forest. From here, the trail follows the Ghunsa Khola, and we gradually ascend through a scenic landscape with a beautiful Himalayan view of Kumba Karna Himal.

Kanchenjunga trek: This valley widens, and the Tibetan Budhhist culture becomes more prominent. Now you will reach the pure Tibetan village of Phale (3,210m), where you can find handmade carpets, and prices are chipset then Kathmandu.

Trek from Phale: the trail continues with a gentle climb along the forest and river valley to reach Ghunsa. This is the largest village in the Kanchenjunga trekking route. Ghunsa is a really beautiful Tibetan-style village, with Chortens, prayer flags, Mani walls, and a monastery, and offring amizing view of Janu Himal (Kumba Karna)

Day 08: Acclimatization day in Ghunsa

During the Kanchenjunga trek | Ghunsa is one of the best places for acclimatization. This goal is to help your body adjust to high Altitude before hiking up to Khambachen.

Late breakfast today: After breakfast, explore Ghunsa village and the surrounding viewpoints. Ghunsa is quite a rich Buddhist culture, with prayer flags, Chortens, Mani walls, and a Tibetan-style monastery. This village site along the Ghunsa Khola offers a dramatic view of Janu Himal and sloping forests.

After lunch, we recommend that you hike uphill to Ghuns viewpoint ridge or trek part of the trail toward Khmbachen direction for better altitude adaptation. From this, hiking helps your body adjust while offering a stunning view of Kumbhakarna Himal (French Name, Janu Himal

This is your free day, if you like visiting the local monastery, interacting with the village, or resting at the lodge. This is up to you, or preparing for the next day’s trekking to high up Khambachen.

Day 09: Ghunsa to Khambachen

Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek trail follows the North side of the Ghunsa Khola, gradually gaining altitude through the beautiful forests of Juniper and pine, with increasing views of snow-covered peaks and glaciers.

The place is narrower and more rugged compared to the Lower villages, with several rocky landslide areas, and occasional yak pastures along the trail. When you ascend, the landscape becomes more dramatic and barren, with towering cliffs and glacial scenery.

During the trekking route, you will pass Rampuk Kharka, a small seasonal pasture area, where the trekking group stops for a short rest and lunch. After lunch, the trail continues with a steady ascent, offering a stunning view of Kumbhakarna (Janu Himal), which is 7,710m, one of the most beautiful mountains in the Kanchenjunga region.

Now you have arrived at Khambachen, a remote place located in a wide glacial valley beneath massive mountain peaks. Khambachen Valley is surrounded by towering Himalayan moraine landscapes, giving it a true high-altitude wilderness.

Day 10: Trek from Khambachen to Lhonak

After your breakfast, the trek begins, one of the most dramatic high-altitude places of the Kanchenjunga region. The trail slowly ascends through a rugged alpine landscape dominated by glaciers’ moraine fields and towering mountain peaks.

Kanchenjunga Tea House trek: Leaving from Khambachen, the trekking route crosses a landslide-prone area and a rocky place carved by the Khabachen Khola. From here, the scenery usually changes to barren, vegetation disappears, and the valley opens into a wide glacial basin.

The Trekking trail continues past Ramtang Kharka, which is a seasonal yak grazing area and a common resting place for trekking clients. From here, the path becomes more exposed, with glacial winds and colder temperatures as you gain altitude.

Trek solely: you enter the wide, high-altitude valley leading to Lhonak, surrounded by glaciers, and an ice-covered mountain peak. Lhonak is one of the best remote settlements in the Kanchenjunga Trekking region, offering special surrounding Himalyan views.

Day 11: From Lhonak hike to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp viewpoint.

Early Morning breakfast at Lhonak, and the trek starts with a hike toward Pangpema, the north base camp viewpoint of Kanchenjunga (8,586m). This is one of the most spectacular high -altitude walking in the Kanchenjunga trek.

The trekking trail follows the wide glacial valley of the Kanchenjunga Glacier and a gradual ascent over moraine and icy streams. And barren Alpine terrain. At the Pangpema, there is no teahouse, only the Himalaya wilderness. Surrounded by towering peaks.

Views from Pangpema: The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Massive Himalayas such as Kanchenjunga North Face snow peaks, and the surrounding glacier walls, appear in full scale. The air is very thin, and progress is slow.

Upon arrival at Pangpema (5,140m), from here, a wonderful viewpoint of Kanchenjunga Base Camp (North), you get a very close-up view of the giant north face of Kanchenjunga, and the surrounding icefalls. This is the most powerful mountain panoramic.

At Pangpema, spend an hour on photographs, resting, and enjoying the mountain scenery, then return to Lhonak.

Day 12: From Lhonak trek to Ghunsa

Kanchenjunga trek | early breakfast in Lhonak, and trek descent back through the Upper Kanchenjunga valley toward the famous village -Ghunsa. This is a significant drop in altitude, making the return down faster. But still physically demanding due to the distance and rocky terrain.

From here, the trail first retraces the route back down through the vast glacial landscapes of the Kanchenjunga Glacier basin, Pangpema junction, and moraine fields. In the early section is exposed to strong winds and dramatic views of Kanchenjunga North Face, Kumbakarna, and other Himalayan peaks with surrounding ice walls.

We descend to Khmbachen, and the landscape is gradually becoming greener and more hospitable. You are entering yak grazing areas at Ramtang Kharka. Where many tourists, guides, and porters take a short rest and Lunch break. After lunch, the trail continues toward Ghunsa Khola with increasing vegetation and forests.

Trekking from Khambachen, the path descends through the pine and Rhododendron forests. We are passing rocky landslide zones and a suspension bridge. From here, the air becomes noticeably thicker as you lose altitude, making the walk more comfortable compared to ascending. Now you are welcome back to the famous Ghunsa village.

Day 13: Trek from Ghunsa to Selle Base Camp

Having breakfast at Ghunsa, trek toward Selle Base Camp. Entering the high pass trail that connects the south circuit valley of Kanchenjunga. From here, the trek trail climbs slowly at first, through pine, dense Juniper, & Rhododendron forest. Following the alpine ridges and gaining altitude here. The path vegetation becomes thinner, and the landscape opens up to wide views of the surrounding Mountains,& deep valleys below.

Kanchenjunga Tea House trek | You leave the forest zone and enter open Yak grazing areas and rocky alpine terrain. The trekking trail becomes steeper & more demanding, with cold winds and thinner air as you approach high altitude. Thai is remote and less frequently used, giving a strong wilderness feeling.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek | continue climbing steadily until reaching the Selle La Base Camp (About 4,200 meters. From here, we are preparing for the next day, crossing the high pass and heading towards Tseram & the southern Kanchenjunga trekking route.

From here, views of expansive surroundings, ridgelines, and distant Himalaya snow peaks, & dramatic high altitude landscapes. The environment is cold and exposed, especially in the evening & Morning.

Day 14: From Selle La Base Camp to Selle La Pass & descend to Tseram

After breakfast, the trail begins steadily uphill climb over rocky terrain & Alpine ridge. Here, you gain altitude, and the landscape becomes increasingly barren, with cold winds and wonderful views of surrounding snow mountain peaks, and the south Kanchenjunga valley. The part is physically demanding due to the high altitude & steep climbing up. Therefore, we slowly and steady pace is essential.

Climbing up after a few hours, you reach the Selle la Pass (4,480m), the high altitude on this trekking route. From the Selle la Pass, you will have the best panoramic view of the south Kanchenjunga range, including the glacial valley, and dramatic ridgelines stretching across both northern & southern valleys of Kanchenjunga.

The trek from the pass to the trail begins a long descent toward the southern Base Camp side. The trekking route drops steeply at first through the rocky path and loose scree, requiring careful footing. When you descend, the landscape slowly changes-glacial terrain gives way to Alpine meadows & Rhododendron forest.

From here, the trail continues down through a series of ridges and valleys until the amazing place of Tseram (3,870m), which is located in the lush forest valley of the South Kanchenjunga Base Camp route. Tseram gives a warmer, greener contrast after the high pass trek.

Day 15: Trek from Tseram to Ramche

Taking breakfast in Tseram, the trek starts with a beautiful, gradual ascent towards Ramche, which is the Upper Kanchenjunga south Base Camp valley. The trekking trail follows the Simbu Khola, surrounded by rhododendron and dense pine forests, with increasing Himalayan views of glaciers, snow peaks, which you climb high up.

This path is defined but steady, uphill, crossing through peaceful alpine terrain with occasional wooden bridges, yak grazing areas, and meadows. As we gain altitude, the forest slowly disappears, and the valley has a wide glacial basin.

During the walk: will notice dramatic views of the Karbu Range, Rathng, and near the hanging glaciers. Here is the environment that becomes cold and more exposed as you approach the South Kanchenjunga valley.

Now you have arrived at Ramche (4,580m), a small seasonal teahouse located near the edge of the glacier. Ramche is one of the last point trek before heading to Oktang, and the South Kanchenjunga viewpoint in your trek.

Day 16: From Ramche hike to Oktang for the viewpoint Kanchenjunga South Base Camp.

Kanchenjunga Tea House trek Very early morning breakfast at Ramche, then hike toward the (Oktang) best viewpoint. This is the most dramatic viewpoint of the South Base Camp of Kanchenjunga.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek: the trail starts gently along the Yalung moraine glacier, gradually as you move closer to the glacier. Here, the landscape is completely alpine; there are no trees, only rock, ice, and vast open valleys surrounded by towering mountain walls. Here, the air is thin; therefore, slow and steady peace is very important.

As we ascend, you get increasingly close views of the South face of Kanchenjunga Himal, Yalung Ri Glacier, and the surrounding mountain peaks, like Kabru and Rathong Himal. The path becomes more exposed, and winds can be very strong near the Himalayan viewpoints.

After you reach the Oktang viewpoint (about 4,750 m). From here, you are rewarded with one of the most spectacular panoramic Himalayan direct views of the massive Kanchenjunga South face (8586 m), hanging glacier, and the surrounding mountain peaks. On an exceptionally clear day, the distant views of Makalu and the far Mountain skyline can be seen, plus a very distant glimpse toward the Everest Khumbu region.

We are spending 40.55 minutes for the Photograph, resting and enjoying the Himalayan scenery, we retrace our steps carefully back down to Ramche for the overnight.

Day 17: Trek Ramche to Lasya Danda

7: AM breakfast at Ramche, and trek descent from the high Glacier zone of the south Kanchenjunga Base camp area. The Trekking trail retraces part of the route down the Simbuwa Khla valley, slowly leaving behind the barren alpine landscape, and returning by the Forest of the Pine and Rhododendron.

The trek’s initial part is a steady descent over a rocky mountain and a glacial moraine path, including a view of the Yalung Ri Glacier and surrounding Himalayan peaks. Slowly finding you. You lose Altitude, the environment becomes noticeably greener and warmer, with waterfalls, mossy forests, and birdlife returning along the way to Lasya Danda.

From here, you continue descending past the Tseram region junctions, passing small wooden structures and traversing a forested ridge. The trekking trail is long and can be tiring due to continuous walking; therefore, careful footing is important, especially in wet or slippery conditions.

From here, you move down the valley, then you reach Lasya Danda) about 3600 m) it depending on the tea house location. This is a ridge area with forested surroundings and an open viewpoint. This is a quieter and less visited place, offering a peaceful place.

Altitude: (3,310 m). Lasya Danda.

Day 18: Lasya Danda to Yamphudin

Trek from Lasya Danda to Yamphudin, long descent toward the lower Kanchenjunga region, and a warmer hillside village. The Trekking trail continues through oak, Bamboo, pine, and rhododendron forests, slowly losing altitude as the landscape becomes greener and more cultivated fields.

The Kanchenjunga trekking route today is mostly downhill, and a mix of steep forest sections, narrow ridges, and occasional slippery trails, it it is rain. From here, you will cross a small stream, a wooden bridge, and pass through a quiet forested area with rich birdlife and occasional wildlife sightings.

From here, we enter the traditional Limbu and Rai settlements, where terraced cardamom plantations and village life become more visible. From this lower place, the air becomes warmer and more humid compared to the high alpine zone.

Now you are arriving at Yamphudine, a wonderful hillside village, located at the junction of the Soth Kanchenjunga Base Camp trekking route and the lower valley trails. Yamphudin is known for its mixed ethnic culture, traditional houses, and peaceful rural atmosphere.

Day 19: Trek from Yamphudine to Phmpe Danda

From the Yamphudin trek toward the mid-hill ridge village of Phumpe Danda, slowly leaving the lower valley floor and climbing back into the forest hillsides.

Kanchenjunga tea house trek | the trail slowly ascends throgh the terraced farm lands, cardamom fields, and traditional villages inhabited mainly by Rai and Limbu communities. Surroundings are lush and green, with warmer temperatures compared to the higher alpine areas of the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek.

As we continue, the trail becomes steeper and more forested, entering a bamboo, oak-dense, and rhododendron forest. This trail includes uphill climbs and ridge sections. Offering occasional views back toward the Yamphudin valley and surrounding hills.

Day 20: Trek from Phumpe to Sinchwa Bhanjyang

Breakfast at Phumpe & trek begins uphill toward Sinchuwa Bhanjyang, entering a quieter ridge part of the lower Kanchenjunga foothills. The trekking trail slowly climbs through dense forests and the traditional midhill landscapes.

The trek starts with a steady ascent through rhododendron, oak, and mixed hardwood forests where the air becomes cooler and fresher. From here, we will pass a small rural trail, which is used by locals, with occasional clearing offering views of the surrounding hills & deep valleys.

From here, the trail becomes more ridge-based, with alternating ascent and gentle parts along forested slopes. Birdlife is rich in this region, and you may also see grazing livestock in the forest clearings.

Now you are nearly arrived (Sinchuwa Bhanjyang), it is a steady climb along a forest ridge, eventually opening into a small pass area surrounded by peaceful woodland & Himalyan views.

Day 21: Trek from Snchwa to Lali Kharka

Kanchenjunga Tea House trek

Your breakfast 7 am at Sinchuwa, and your trekking section is toward Lali Kharka, descending slowly through the lower Kanchenjunga foothills. It is a peaceful and scenic walk through forested ridges and traditional rural landscapes.

From here, the trail descends slowly through dense oak, rhododendron, and mixed forest, where the path is often shaded and cool. Now we lose altitude, the vegetation becomes more subtropical, and we begin to see cultivated land & small villages.

Along the trail, we pass quite a few ridgelines & small hamlets, with occasional views of distant hills, and valleys. This trekking route is less rugged compared to the higher part of the trek, making it a comfortable day of walking.

From here, we continue descending, and the trail opens into terraced fields and farmland, where local communities grow crops such as maize, millet, and vegetables. The air becomes warmer & more humid as you approach a lower altitude.

After several hours of your trek, you reach Lali Kharka, a small village known for its peaceful environment and scenic hillside views.

Day 22: Trek from Lali Kharka to Taplejung Bazaar

Your Breakfast in the Lali Kharka, then the trek starts, your final walk toward Taplejung Bazar (Phungling), completing your Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek. This trek is a relatively easier day compared to the high Himalyan sections, as you descend & traverse through mid-hill landscapes.

The trek trail follows a slow, gentle descent through terraced farmlands, cardamom gardens, and mixed forest, with occasional short uphill & downhill sections. Now you move closer to Taplejung, and the path becomes wider and more frequently used by Locals, with small villages & rural houses along the way.

From here, we will pass through several scattered villages, suspension bridges over small rivers, and a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Tamor valley with surrounding greenery. The environment slowly becomes more urban and developed as you approach the district headquarters.

After 4-5 hours walking, you arrive at Taplejung (Phungling Bazaar). This is a busy town, with a lodge, Shops. Government offices. And transport facilities. This marks the completion of the trekking trip in the Kanchenjunga region.

Day 23: From Taplejung, jeep drive to Bhadrapur

Early morning, take breakfast, then begin the Jeep drive back toward the lowland of eastern Nepal. This marks the transition from the Himalayan region to the subtropical plains.

Jeep driving follows the winding hill road through the Phidim, Ilam, and Birtamod, passing through wonderful landscapes of tea gardens, terraced hills, rivers & small rural towns. The driving road is scenic but long, with continuous bends, ups & downs, with mixed road conditions- some parts are smooth while others remain rough, and unpaved depending on road maintenance, and weather conditions.

Nearly your arrival at Bhadrapur: the climate becomes warmer and more humid, and you slowly leave behind the Himalayan foothills for the flat Tarai plains. The road eventually reaches Bhadrapur (91 meters). This is a transport hub for eastern Nepal.

From Taplejung to Bhadrapur (Around 242 KM.

Drive duration: 8-10 hours.

Day 24: Bhadrapur Kathmandu flight and transfer to the hotel.

Your breakfast in Hotel Bhadrapur & entering the airport for your return flight to Kathmandu. Usually check in at the airport, it require 1 hour before.

Flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu takes around 45-55 minutes, it offers amazing aerial views of the eastern hills, the river, valleys & the distant Himalayan range as you head back toward Kathmandu.
